BIRTHDAY GIFT FOR 14TH AUGUST !

Yesterday, a group of more than 40 university going  students from  a program “Yeh Hai Karachi” sponsored by an NGO, “Karachi Youth Initiative”, came to visit Gul Bahao’s research center in Gulshan-e-Iqbal. Nargis Latif  (CEO of Gul Bahao), addressing the youth, said that with only a few days left for independence day, her organization has a pleasant surprise for the whole of Pakistan. That, she said is the Chandi Technology which, has taken more than 2 decades to evolve with an expenditure running into millions of rupees and the involvement of thousands of people living in Karachi.

The Gul Bahao staff then proceeded to show every aspect of the Chandi Technology, from the 14 feet high hall built 4 years ago to the under construction 10’x12′ Chandi Room, the 5’x6′ water pond, masterbed, tables and chairs all made from clean, plastic waste supplied by factories.

They took pains to explain that all these items are interchangeable, that the panel used in the roof of the Chandi Ghar can be changed into a light weight table, while the heavy weight blocks used in the columns can be used for making a water reservoir in the shortest possible time. Beautiful looking mounted photographs of different aspects and locations of the Chandi Technology were also on display, on the occasion.

Nargis Latif the founder and chairperson requested the participants of the workshop to raise their hands in prayer, reciting the translation of Sura Fateha in Urdu. Nargis begged the almighty to bless this innovation which according to her is truly a “Sign of God”. Nargis appealed to the students to take up the Chandi Technology, to produce it, market it, to make the media more aware about it. “Just as the steam engine, brought about a technological revolution in the west, so too the Chandi Technology when fully applied will God willing, change the face of Pakistan”, she exhorted.

The CEO of the Chandi Technology said the immediate implementation of the Chandi Technology will be in the form of Rozgar La Mehdood i.e unlimited opportunities for entrepreneurs and shelter for the shelter less and Subsidized Housing for the rural poor.  The students who participated in the one day workshop hailed from different universities, with academic backgrounds as varied as Business Administration, Biology, Mass Communications, Biology etc. However all of them came armed with Digital Cameras to take shots of a technology which is struggling to make a place for it self in the global village.

Yesterday, Gul Bahaos Nargis latif met the president and vice president of FPCCI, Haji Sherani and Mr. Shakeel Dhingra. Nargis said that Gul Bahaos campaign “Garbage is Gold”, “Employment – unlimited” and its famous innovation “Chandi Ghar” are set to have impact on the economy of the country. In addition, its other innovations costing millions of rupees are making inroads into education, health, power generation agriculture, industry including the construction industry right up to cleaning the environment. The president of the FPPCI immediately extended an invitation to address a forthcoming meeting of the ABAD (Association of Builders and developers).

In the meantime there has been intense interaction between students of Universities and Gul Bahao for extending internships for students in its scheme “Rozgar La mehdood” or “Employment –unlimited” . Recently groups of students came from Dawood Engineering University as well as Szabist . While the managing trustee of Gul Bahao addressed students of the Chemistry department of the Karachi University. Throwing a challenge at the Chemistry students, Nargis said manufacture of transparent pet bottles is the need of the hour. She said the potential market is the crores of Pakistani people who desperately need clean water. The manufacturers she said would only have to propagate the concept of the Paaki Pani (As researched by Gul Bahao) and which has been endorsed by the Dow University of Sciences which is simply putting bottles of tap water in the sun for an hour or so. This solar treatment results in water purification without destroying essential minerals.

Welcoming the students of Dawood college of Architecture Nargis likened the invention of the Chandi Ghar to that of the ubiquitous mobile phone which has changed the lives of the people. And just as the inventor of the mobile never dreamed of the multiple uses of the mobile phone so too the mobile house or “Chandi Ghar” will throw up avenues Gul Bahao never dreamt off. Showing the students around the Chandi Ghar plant Nargis said the Chandi Ghar (prefabricated house) consists of modular blocks which can be alternately used for making something as complex as a two storey house or as simple as a sofa or bed. Nargis said that scores of Chandi Ghars have been put up in both remote areas as well as the bustling city of Karachi.

Giving one instance where the Wastic blocks (component of the Chandi Ghar) could be used by factory owners Nargis explained Millions of rupees worth of goods lying under the open skies can now be secured from the impending rains by simply making a platform from these blocks and putting the goods on top of them . This is specially so for low lying areas. She said that recently the navy personnel were very keen to put up the Chandi Ghars in the coastal areas. Their contention was that in the coastal areas no construction material has been able to withstand the corrosive effect of the sea breeze which is why the Chandi Ghar (made of plastic material) would have an advantage.

The head of the Gul Bahao Organisation informed the students that recently a breakthrough came in the person of the the CEO of Bayer pharmaceuticals who installed a Chandi Ghar in his home and entertained his guests (who included personell from the diplomatic corps) in it. He kept insisting that the Chandi Ghar was ideal for marriage halls.
Gul Bahao is now actively conducting a recruitment program for inducting students in the Chandi Ghar marketing program which again is a part of its program of “Employment unlimited.”

Since the last few days Nargis latif CEO of Gul Bahao trust has been delivering lectures to hundreds of students on the invitation of some of the premier educational institutions of the metropolis viz NED university, Urdu Arts University and Beacon House Gulshan campus.

Taking up her favorite subject of research, Nargis lamented that most students consider their studies as boring and holidays a release from “prison”. She said that she has worked closely for years with hundreds of youth, using the knowledge she obtained right from school, college upto university. According to her the youth she worked with were mostly illiterate or semi illiterate but who had knowledge of certain crafts like tailoring and house building. She said nothing could equal the joy she felt whenever a discovery was made. Nargis said that at the end of 18 years solid work and an input of 8 crore rupees, the result has been amazing – more than 5 discoveries which are slowly making a world impact. She said her organization’s work has been acknowledged by diverse organizations like the Clinton Foundation, Courier international(French newspaper) personnel from the German embassy, World Bank, UNDP, UNESCO etc.

At both the Universities the CEO of Gul Bahao revealed the organizations impending movement called “Rozgar la mehdood” or Employment unlimited for all kinds of youth especially the highly educated youth of the city. Nargis said that in the initial stages her organization plans to give paid internships to students in the summer months. Giving an example of the usefulness of the Chandi Ghar, the most famous of Gul Bahaos innovations she said that in the highly populated metropolis of Karachi it can be put up instantly and dismantled quickly which makes it extremely useful in areas where land is highly costly. She said the Chandi Ghar (a mobile home) can be compared with the mobile phone which has changed the face of the 21st century.

With the help of multimedia Nargis Latif explained each and every innovation of Gul Bahao and said they were backed by strong scientific principles. In all the three institutions the response was positive. While more than 600 students from NED, sat glued to their seats for more than an hour, 800 students of Beacon House came in batches to hear Nargis Latif in the school hall. In both the institutions she was bombarded with questions and resounding applause.

Urdu Arts University was the last institution where Nargis latif revealed her passion for Islam. Exhorting the students to read the scriptures in their own languages, she said this is precisely the reason why Islam is spreading like wild fire in the West. “Islam is the fastest growing religion in America” has been claimed by Hillary Clinton, she reminded the audience. According to Nargis it has been several years since Gul Bahao started its “God is great” (Allah o Akber) movement. Authentic translations of the holy Quran are regularly disseminated in 3 languages viz Urdu, English and Sindhi, in large bold letters through the medium of exhibitions and cards. She said that the Quran, the Hadith and the Seerat un nabi make highly interesting reading besides being useful in worldly matters like health, business management etc. She praised the role of the current Urdu newspapers and electronic media of India and Pakistan for bringing Islam to the non-Arabs.
